Thunder around the globe

Sydney Thunder alumni Dirk Nannes and Eoin Morgan were in action this past week, taking part in the NatWest t20 Blast competition in England.

Nannes, who has not played competitive cricket since wrapping up the BBL03 season, showed that he had not lost his touch claiming 4/21 for Somerset against Gloucestershire last week (16 May). Nannes led the way with the ball as Somerset won by 18 runs, before he finished with 1-42 in Somerset’s T20 clash v Surrey overnight (18 May).

Chasing 128 for victory, Middlesex failed to build on a solid partnership as they fell short by 13 runs.

In IPL news, dangerous left-hander David Warner has continued his form with the bat with 55no, 44 and 34 for Hyderabad Sunrisers this past week. Warner currently sits fourth in the leading run scorers of the tournament with 375 at 46.87, with a strike rate of 132.97.

In other news, there are plenty of rumours swirling around the media with talk of legendary South African Jacques Kallis and Patrick Cummins joining the Sydney Thunder as the competitions contracting period and trade week get underway today.

With no official news from Sydney Thunder, General Manager Nick Cummins did publicly express interest in the South African.

"We’ve been talking to his management, but I know a few teams are," Cummins said. "The great thing about Jacques is he is two players; he's a batsman and a bowler, and that is invaluable in any team”.
