Fast bowler Taneale Peschel is in line to make her Sydney Thunder debut after being named in the team’s 13-player squad to face Brisbane Heat this Thursday, November 7.
Taneale Peschel named in Thunder Squad for clash with Heat
Returning from a minor injury sustained during the T20 Spring Challenge, Peschel replaces Paris Bowdler in the travelling squad, who was previously brought in as a local replacement player. Paris will remain with the team in Perth.
Thunder travelled to Perth on Tuesday for the clash at the WACA. The trip brings added significance for Peschel, as it will be her first appearance back in her hometown since joining Thunder after six seasons with the Scorchers.
“Since joining Thunder, I feel like I’ve been accepted into a family. All the girls have been so welcoming, and the staff have been so supportive,” said Peschel.
“I’m really excited about the opportunity to step out onto the WACA in Thunder colours. It’s an iconic ground that I know so well, and it will be special to play in front of my family and friends too. It feels like coming full circle.
“After a small setback, I’m even more motivated to help the team and contribute to a successful season.”
Thunder currently sit first on the WBBL|10 ladder following convincing victories over the Hobart Hurricanes and Adelaide Strikers last week, while the Heat are in fourth place.
Both teams will be competing for the Road Safety Cup, an initiative designed to amplify road safety messaging. Supported by partnerships with Transport for NSW, Sydney Thunder, Queensland Transport and Main Roads, and Brisbane Heat, the Road Safety Cup aims to promote safer driving habits and reduce road fatalities.
In a unique tribute to the campaign, Thunder captain Phoebe Litchfield will wear the shirt number ‘0’ and adopt the name ‘Towards Zero’ to reinforce the message that the only acceptable number of road fatalities is zero.
