Thunder adds international firepower for the remainder of KFC BBL|14 season

Sydney Thunder have today announced the signing of two international players, Muhammad Hasnain and George Garton, for the remainder of the KFC BBL|14 season.

The pair will replace Lockie Ferguson and Sherfane Rutherford, who depart the team due to pre-arranged commitments in another T20 tournament.

Pakistan fast bowler Hasnain re-joins Thunder, having previously played for the club in BBL|11. Known for his ability to bowl at express pace, Hasnain brings recent form and experience in T20 competitions to the team.

"I’m excited to return to the BBL and Sydney Thunder," said Hasnain.

"I have been playing a lot of short-form cricket recently in Pakistan, on a variety of different wickets, and am keen to bring that recent experience and preparation into this tournament. The team has done incredibly well so far, and I am eager to contribute as much as I can for the remainder of the tournament."

Thunder General Manager, Trent Copeland praised Hasnain’s impact.

"When we looked at how to replace someone like Lockie Ferguson, we knew we couldn’t replicate him exactly. Instead, we targeted an X-factor player—someone capable of turning games on their head," said Copeland.

"Hasnain stood out. His incredible impact for the club in BBL|11, with 150 km/h deliveries and match-winning spells, made him an obvious choice. At just 24 years old, he brings raw pace, wicket-taking ability, and energy to our squad—a massive boost for the tournament and finals."

England international all-rounder Garton joins Thunder after previously representing the Adelaide Strikers in BBL|12. A proven performer in The Hundred and Vitality Blast, Garton is a left-arm quick who also offers depth with the bat.

"When replacing players like Sams and Rutherford, we needed someone who could offer balance and versatility. George Garton ticked all the boxes with his pedigree, experience in different conditions, and ability to adapt to various roles," said Copeland.

"George’s left-arm pace, combined with his batting ability, adds a new dimension to our team. At 27, he’s got plenty of experience, and we’re confident he’ll make a big impact, particularly in key matches in Hobart and Sydney.

"With George, Muhammad, and Sam Billings, we’re in a strong position to push for success in the latter stages of the tournament."

Both players are expected to join the squad ahead of Thunder’s upcoming fixture against the Hobart Hurricanes, as the team continues to build momentum in the BBL|14 season.
