Cameron Bancroft Extends with Thunder Until End of BBL|17
Hot on the heels of securing leg-spinner Tanveer Sangha, Thunder are excited to retain the services of the world-class batter from Western Australia, providing a timely boost ahead of their Knockout Final at ENGIE Stadium tonight.
Bancroft was in exceptional form this season, scoring 105 runs at an average of 35, before an unfortunate collision with teammate Daniel Sams ruled him out for the remainder of the tournament. Despite the setback, Thunder General Manager Trent Copeland expressed his confidence in Bancroft's long-term impact at the club.
“It’s a fantastic outcome to have Cam committed for the next three years. His experience, having played extensively in WA, represented Australia, and been part of successful teams, is invaluable. His decision to stay with us speaks volumes about our vision,” said Copeland.
“What stands out most is his choice to stay with Thunder despite experiencing different environments. It’s not just about cricket for him, he wants to drive our culture and contribute to our long-term success.
“Even after his injury, he was the first to call and say, 'Get me back to Sydney, I want to be with the boys for the finals.' That dedication is exactly what we want in our club.
“He’s not just about scoring runs; he’s committed to engaging with fans, signing autographs, and making community appearances. He understands what it means to represent the Thunder brand.
“We’re thrilled to have him on board and can’t wait to see the impact he’ll continue to have on and off the field.”
Bancroft, who is currently recovering from a broken nose, joins a host of high-profile players committed to the club long-term, including David Warner, Sam Billings, Chris Green and Tanveer Sangha.
“I’m really excited about what we’re building here at Sydney Thunder,” said Bancroft.
“The team environment is something special, and I want to be a part of it as we work towards an exciting future. There’s a real sense of momentum, and I believe we’re heading in the right direction.”
Thunder fans can look forward to Bancroft's return in BBL|15.
