Sri Lanka claims HomeWorld Thunder Nation Cup after thrilling finale

For the first time in the tournament's 12-year history, Sri Lanka have lifted the HomeWorld Thunder Nation Cup, securing a five-wicket win over Nepal at Blacktown International Sports Park on Thursday night.

Chasing Nepal’s total of 9/115, Sugitharan Seevarathinam anchored the Sri Lankan innings with a composed 40 off 45 balls, aptly supported by teammate Thanusraj Yogeswaran’s 31 (not out). 

The HomeWorld Thunder Nation Cup is an annual tournament that celebrates culture, diversity, and social cohesion, bringing together players from communities around the world through their shared love of cricket. 

Nepal captain Saroj Pathak said: 

“We definitely enjoyed the tournament. Despite not being on the winning side, making it into the final was a good achievement."

Sri Lankan player and HomeWorld Thunder Nation Cup champion Vinushan Joseph said:

“Playing together is the main thing. It [Thunder Nation Cup] brings all the nations together, playing good cricket.

"I believe it should keep going."
